the extant hunter gatherers, mostly in the tropics, don't work very much, at least compared to our forty hours a week all year long... if the area was filled with animals then it was an easy way to get food for not just one meal, but a bunch.... and even farming has it's seasons, spring planting and fall harvesting when they have to work more, but winter was very relaxed and summer was routine maintenance.. we can still do that today!
