After French farmers stepped up protests earlier in the week, the government promised on Thursday to extend protections - including better controlling imports and giving farmers additional aid
With protesting if you win, you still lose. This is because now the farmers are appeased but it doesn't change their dependency on government. Government still holds the strings. The farmers were united in this and they could have organized total extrication from government by starting their own cooperatives. Now they'll just go back to work still beholden to whatever government dishes out and the energy and solidarity that the protests brought will have dissipated for another few years. Till it all just raises its head again.
