I was on a steady upswing for the longest time—then, growth in subs ground to a halt and paid subs started to decline. Right round the same time as everyone else. Fishy!

Many of my Substack subscriptions (including this one) go straight to my iCloud Junk so I actually read my Junk Box like it’s my inbox now. On top of that, none of the “reply to this comment” links (or the links back to the articles where comments were posted) ever work. It’s… very suspect. Also, the latest funding (Jul 17, 2025) from The Chernin Group's Peter Chernin has a public WEF profile and he’s long-time global media elite (ex-News Corp COO.

Founders say: “We don’t suppress; no third-party pressure.”

Counterpoint: with VC backing (BOND, TCG, a16z), the incentive and PR pressures exist whether or not anyone admits to top-down censorship.

Bottom line from my perspective: external censorship is obvious, internal suppression looks plausible but unproven and the platform owes its writers transparent data and real answers.
